about
This song is our attempt to atone the loss of a beautiful instrument -
Gabriel's violin. Swept away into the night by an illegal trafficker of the East End when Luke and Angie left it in the back of a taxi. Because Gabriel is the most wonderful friend and band mate one could wish for, he forgave us. Since plagued with eternal guilt, we wrote this song for him.
We do not expect public forgiveness for what we did but if you like the song and you want to help Gabe...it's just £1 to download and EVERY PENNY will go to his new violin fund. If you wish to contribute more then we will be ever more eternally grateful to you, dear human.
Gabriel's virtue is heavenly sent
Shines a light through the dark and the haze
And Gabriel with your head held low
Said I haven't seen you for days oh lord, no I haven't seen you for days.
Gabriel walked through the fire and the flood
He picked up his bow and he played
The birds would pray just to hear him play
And no one spoke badly of Gabe oh lord, no one spoke badly of Gabe.
His fiddle was sweet as the air that he breathed
It was plucked from his hands and was fed to the street
Nobody heard him now I am a man of shame
Together we stand empty lilly white hand
Gabriel clutch the air, Gabriel curse the land
The whiter the marker the blacker and darker my name
For Gabe, for Gabe..
Gabriel played for the king and the queen
They said sing me more stories of sweet
But the earth gave way on that very day
When Gabriel knelt in the street, the street
When Gabriel knelt in the street.
Put down your drum and try young Gabriel
Unwind your thumbs and cry
Lost dimes for a crumb on which you dined, young Gabriel
Untie your lungs, do not shy

It'd been a long time since an album got me so mesmerized as The Boatswain's Refuge. The raw, natural quality; the way every member interacts with each other; how every note hits the right places at the right times: I'm in love with this EP! Can't wait for more! Hector Cerda
